SOCCER STAR, MIKEL JOHN OBI GETS BAPTISM OF FIRE

Nigerian and Chelsea Midfielder, Mikel John Obi briefly came under fire on Wednesday, September 19th 2012 after his mistake helped Juventus come back from 2-0 down in Group E Champions league game.

Chelsea fans blamed Mikel for giving the ball away just ten minutes before time and also not preventing the equalizing goal.

The fans also hurled insults at him with racist messages via social media site, Twitter which made him out of annoyance shut down his Twitter account.

Although, the 25-year-old later apologized for the mistake.

Mikel said.

"If I want to make up an excuse, I can," Mikel said. "But, for me, I gave the ball away. I put my hands up, we move on. "I'm sorry about the mistake, but there are no excuses."

Chelsea said they have informed the police after being made aware of the racist Tweets.

A statement read: We've been made aware of racist tweets targeted at Mikel which are totally unacceptable, disgusting and abhorrent. We've informed the police and support taking the strongest possible action."

Chelsea Coach, Di Matteo added: “There's a lot of campaigns against (racism) and we have to try our best to fight it in every possible way.”
